One of the Maltese islands best known qualities is certainly its beautiful clear blue sea. The islands are full of beaches and other swimming areas along the coastline. Most seaside resorts in Gozo and Malta are typically Mediterranean with plenty of lodging options, restaurants, bars, casinos and other entertainment. These resorts are not only popular with tourists but also with locals, many of whom have their summer residence in one of these areas. Hence, they tend to be quite crowded in summer. The most popular seaside resorts with tourist are the localities of Sliema and St.Julians. Though we included them in the City Life section, these are certainly important seaside resorts though the best beaches of Malta are not located here. One will indeed find the biggest sandy beaches in Malta more towards the north of the island. The town resorts of Bugibba, Qawra and Xemxija are also very popular with both tourists and locals and they all fall within the St.Paul’s Bay locality. In 2012, Gozo and Comino have been awarded the third best coastal destination out of 100 different destinations. It may also be argued that the islands are a big seaside resort in themselves as wherever you are; the sea is never far away!
